BHO 1–3

Basic home obedience

Three phases from first commands to reliable, real‑life control. Certificates at each phase. This is the backbone of the school.

The course

Three phases, one lead

Basic Home Obedience runs as a sequence. Each phase ends with a certificate and the next one starts harder.

BHO 1

Foundations

Sit, down, stay, heel, recall. Clear signals between you and your dog, and the handling you'll use every day.

BHO 2

Reliability

The same commands with distance, duration and distractions. Longer stays, cleaner heelwork, calmer greetings.

BHO 3

Real life

Off‑leash control, new environments, and the specific habits your dog brought with it. Then the certificate.

Why people finish all three

  • Sessions are kept to a handful of handlers, so mistakes get caught and fixed the moment they happen.
  • Owner and dog train together. The results survive the drive home.
  • Every breed and age has been through here — Labradors, Shepherds, Malinois, Jack Russells, rescues.
  • A real field: covered training area, agility kit, barrels, cones, and open Blue Saddle Ranches space.

The school is Greg's, and it carries the name of his Belgian Malinois. Vito means life — and "dogs equal life" isn't a slogan on a shirt so much as how he trains: patiently, consistently, with the dog's wellbeing in front.

Since 2017 the field at Blue Saddle Ranches has grown a small community around it — BHO graduates, working‑breed handlers, first‑time puppy owners, and a birthday fundraiser every August that sends food, blankets and cash to rescue dogs.

Every August

The birthday is a fundraiser

Each year the school's birthday on the field turns into a drive for Rainbow Nation Animals, a sanctuary looking after more than 130 rescue dogs. Pup‑tarts, carrot cake, donated food and blankets, and a community that shows up.

The 8th birthday in 2025 raised R5,100. A follow‑up drive with the Blue Saddle Ranches community added R7,600 more, plus food and blankets — all delivered to the sanctuary.
